Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Jenna: This movie was in our DVD cabinet for a long time. One day Daddy asked us if we wanted to watch it. He said it was a special movie. When he and Mama first met this is the movie they saw on their first date. I didn’t know if I wanted to watch a movie that old.
I told Daddy that the guy (Johnny Depp) on the DVD box kind of looked like Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He said I was right, because it is the same guy.
There is this old guy (Vincent Price) and he was an inventor. He must have made a lot of money because he lived in this really big castle up high on a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac. He must have been lonely because he decided to make a friend he called Edward (Depp). He started with a cookie as the heart. But he died before he could finish making him I don’t know why but he had scissors for hands. Daddy said that the story was a fairytale and I should just ‘go with it’.

He lives all alone in the castle until one day this lady (Dianne Wiest) is selling some make up door to door and decides to try the castle on the hill. She finds Edward and decides to take him home with her. Daddy said it wasn’t a good idea to take home strangers but I guess he was a nice guy.
At first everyone on the block really likes Edward. They think he is neat. He does a lot of yard work and makes sculptures out of their bushes. Daddy said its called topiary. He also gave the dogs and the ladies haircuts.
Edward really likes the ladies’(Wiest) daughter (Winona Ryder) but she has a mean boyfriend (Anthony Michael Hall) and he doesn’t like Edward.
I don’t know why but after Edward did all these nice things for the people they get mad at him and want him to go away. Only the girl (Ryder) still believes in him.
I really like the music from this movie, Daddy says it is the same guy (Danny Elfman) who wrote the music for Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. I like the songs from those movies too.
Ethan: Edward was cool. He had this neat black outfit and scissors for hands. He could do a lot of things with his scissors. He was good at making bushes look like animals and stuff. He made one look just like a Tyrannosaurs Rex. I want to do that to our bushes. I asked Daddy if we could try, he said ‘no, we don’t have any bushes that big’.
Edward was a nice person. He had a lot of scars on his face because he must have cut himself when he tried to pick his nose or something.
When I play rock, paper, scissors I always like to be scissors, even before I saw this movie.
If I had tools for hands I think I’d pick a chainsaw or maybe a blowtorch. That way I could fight my enemies. But scissors would be good too, or maybe a light saber.
