The Movie Kids

Please welcome The Movie Kids to the House of Odd. The Movie Kids will be reviewing classic films on DVD as well as new releases. Before they are let loose on the latest and greatest summer blockbusters we’ll let them cut their teeth on some DVD reviews from their own collection. This first installment is the Tim Burton’s hit Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985)

Jenna - Daddy was very excited when this movie arrived in the mail from Netflix. He said it was a really cool movie from when he was a kid way back in 1985 and it was directed by Tim Burton who is the same guy who made Corpse Bride and Beetlejuice, so I agreed to watch it with him. It was either that or help fold laundry. I don’t like folding laundry.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure stars a weird guy named Pee-wee Herman. He is really skinny, wears a little red bow tie, and talks in a goofy voice. After watching the movie Daddy went around talking in that voice. He thought he was funny. I told him that he was wrong.

I was told that Pee-wee had a television show for kids on Saturday morning years ago, but they don’t have the DVDs at our rental store so I can’t back that up. I heard Daddy telling Mama about how Pee-wee got in trouble for doing something to himself in a movie theater for grown ups. When I asked Daddy what he was talking about he just gave me a funny look and told me to go play in my room.

Pee-wee had a really cool bike that he really likes a lot. He likes the bike more than his friend Dottie. Daddy said Dottie’s real name is E.G. Daily and she is the voice of Tommy Pickles from Rugrats and one of the Powerpuff girls. I don’t watch those shows anymore so I wasn’t impressed.

One day a jealous rich kid named Francis steals Pee-wee’s bike because he wanted it and I guess his dad couldn’t figure out how to buy one. Actually he didn’t look like a kid, more like a 30 year old man in a jumpsuit.

Pee-wee decided to look for his bike and went to Texas to find the basement of the Alamo. But there was no basement. He met some strange people along the way and eventually found his bike.

I thought the movie was ok. Pee-wee was kind of funny, but I didn’t laugh very much. Not as much as when I watch Drake and Josh on Nick.

Ethan
- Pee-wee had a really neat bike. It had jet rockets under the seat and a lion head on the handle bars. He has a lot of toys in his house and on his lawn. I asked Daddy why did he have some many toys, Daddy said that he was a grown up and if he wanted to spend his money on silly toys he could. That’s what I’m going to do, except only Star Wars toys.

Pee-wee had Mr. T cereal for breakfast. I asked Daddy who is Mr. T? He said “I pity the fool!” I don’t know what that means.

Some mean guy took his bike and wouldn’t give it back. He has a little tiny dog named Speck. That was funny because he was so small he was like a speck.

It made me jump when that Large Marge lady who drove the big truck turned into claymation and scared Pee-wee.

The best part of the movie is when Pee-wee visits the big dinosaurs. He got to climb up inside the T-Rex’s butt and sit in his mouth and watch the sunrise with his friend from the restaurant. Daddy said there is a real restaurant with dinosaurs called the Wheel Inn Restaurant in Cabazon California, just like in the movie.

Pee wee was kind of funny for a while but after an hour I got bored and snuck off to go play on Daddy’s computer.
